I’m Amalie Shaffer, founder of Operationally Sound Consulting and a fractional COO and operations consultant for founder-led businesses. Before I started this practice, I spent 8.5 years as a U.S. Navy Officer, where I learned what it actually means to build systems under pressure, lead teams through complexity, and make sure nothing falls through the cracks when the stakes are high.
I started Operationally Sound Consulting in 2017 because I kept seeing the same thing: brilliant founders buried in operational quicksand. Not because they lacked talent. Because their business had outgrown its infrastructure, and no one was building the next version. That’s what I do. I come in, find the gaps, build what’s missing, and make sure it sticks when I leave.
I work with founders of 5–25 person teams across industries, professional associations, instructional design firms, marketing agencies, specialty product businesses, and more. My engagements range from focused consulting calls to full fractional COO partnerships, depending on what you actually need.
